Abstract

Film is a mass communication medium in the form of audio-visual which has the power and ability to reach many social segments, thus making experts think that film has the potential to influence its audience. We can also see this from sharing research that raises many issues such as films and politics, the influence of films on children's development, films and aggressiveness, the representation of women in films and many more. The film Ali & Ratu-ratu Queens is a film that contains many values ​​about women in its storyline, making this film not only a spectacle, but can also be a guide for Indonesian women in carrying out their roles as a woman in a family. The purpose of this research is to find out how the representation of the role of women in the family is actually in the film Ali & Ratu-ratu Queens. This study uses a semiotic method with the theoretical framework of Charles Sanders Pierce namely Representamen, Object and Interpretant by using the constructivist paradigm to find out the signs that represent the role of women in the family in a film. The purpose of this study was to find out the meaning of the sign regarding the representation of the role of women in a family in the wife figure in the film Ali & Ratu-ratu Queens. The results of this study found signs that represent women in the family, namely the role of women as wife figures, women's roles as mother figures, then the role of women who have a desire to improve themselves.
