Abstract
Humans are social creatures who always interact with other humans as a support for daily activities to exchange information Communication is also very closely related to a culture, because by communicating humans get an idea and ideas that ultimately form a work of art, and the work of art is done by humans. Ancestors are then carried on continuously to their generations, with this process creating a culture. One of the cultures that uses communication in the current study is the Myakak and Nytrok traditions of the Komering Ethnic community, Kota Baru Barat Village, Martapura District, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency. This research is to find out how the creation of this tradition and understand the meaning of each symbol that is at each stage of the ceremonial procession. This research uses Symbolic Interaction Theory and George Herbert Mead Symbolic interaction theory is a movement in sociology that focuses on the ways in which humans create meaning and structure in society through thoughts and actions. In this study, researchers used a constructivist paradigm with qualitative research types and descriptive qualitative methods. The results of this study indicate that the Nyakak and Nyirok traditions are a typical marriage custom of the Komering ethnic group in Kota Baru Barat Village, Martapura District, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency. This tradition has meaning at every stage of the procession of the traditional wedding ceremony and has meaning in what is in this ceremony. Broadly speaking, the mating ' custom has a meaning, namely happiness, while the meanings in the symbols of this traditional wedding ceremony have different meanings in each procession. This is created through a communication process and modified in a certain symbol that is meaningful to produce mutual agreement and is culturally known and accepted by the community.
