Abstract

Culture is concerned with the way humans live, humans learn to think, feel, trust and believe by trying what is appropriate according to their culture, language, friendship, eating habit.. One of the cultures in this study is the Tinong procession in Belimbing Village, Peninjauan District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. This Tinong procession is a marriage culture for a man and a woman who are about to start a new life. The Tinong procession has symbols that have meaning and meaning, as well as verbal and nonverbal communication. This study uses the Symbolic Interactionism Theory from George Herbert Mead. This theory uses three main points, namely the mind, self, and society. This theory focuses on the way humans use symbols and create meaning and order in society through self-thought and action. In this study, using the constructivist paradigm with qualitative research type and in-depth interview method with seven informants. The results showed that the Tinong Procession is a wedding tradition from Belimbing Village, Peninjauan District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. This Tinong procession has meaning in symbols. The meaning of this Tinong Procession is to make it easier, bring the bride and groom to life, for the symbols that are in this procession are lunkhead, diamonds, complete rice along with its side dishes and money, gifts, and goods. Verbal communication used is rhymes and traditional music used is the gong as a confirmation of acceptance of the application and adra death or flight, the old man's wasp as a bridesmaid.
