ANALISIS MAKNA SIMBOLIK TRADISI NGUBOK KUPEK PADA BUDAYA ETNIS SEMENDE LEMBAK DESA ULU DANAU KECAMATAN SINDANG DANAU KABUPATEN OKU SELATAN

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the symbolic meaning of the Ngubok Kupek tradition in the Semende Lembak ethnic culture, Ulu Danau Village, Sindang Danau District, Ogan Komering Ulu Selatan Regency. In this case the researcher is interested in analyzing the symbolic meaning of the Ngubok Kupek tradition in the Semende Lembak ethnic culture, Ulu Danau Village, Sindang Danau District, Ogan Komering Ulu Selatan Regency by using the theory of symbolic interaction. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, the researchers concluded that the Ngubok Kupek tradition is a tradition in naming babies carried out by the Semende Lembak community, Ulu Danau Village until the baby is one month old. This tradition has been carried out since ancient times by the ancestors of the Semende Lembak community in Ulu Danau Village and is still being carried out until now. The Ngubok Kupek tradition is in accordance with the teachings of Islam because in this tradition a baby will be given a good name, in which the name contains prayers that are said to Allah SWT for the good of the child. Every stage, food, and equipment in the Ngubok Kupek tradition has a good meaning so that this tradition deserves to be preserved from generation to generation by the Semende Lembak ethnic community, Sindang Danau Village. This tradition symbolically contains a meaning whose main goal is to pray for the baby so that later he becomes an intelligent person, can read and understand the verses of the Qur'an, become a pious child, will maintain the good name of his jurai (descendants), later when he will worship Allah SWT, use the best clothes, his character, attitude and morals will make his parents and extended family proud and have a healthy body. This tradition has a high social value, where in its implementation all families will be invited, neighbors will invited to share happiness. In the Ngubok Kupek tradition, the entire Ulu Danau village community mingles both natives and immigrants, this shows that this tradition can be accepted by people outside the Semende Lembak ethnicity.
