THE INFLUENCE OF LEARNERS` MOTIVATION ON READING COMPREHENSION

Abstract


The purpose of this research was to find out the correlation
between motivation learner’s and reading comprehension. The
population of this research was the first semester students of
English Education Study Program at FKIP Baturaja University. In
this quantitative research, the researcher used correlation study.
There are two variables in this research. Learners Motivation as
independent variable (variable X) and reading comprehension as
dependent variable (variable Y). The Data collected through
questionnaire of reading motivation and test reading
comprehension. The data was analyzed by calculating data the
learners’ score in reading motivation, finding out the reading
comprehension score and correlating the two variables. The
learners’ score classified into three level of learners’ motivation;
they are; low, average and High. The learners’ score classified
into five level of reading comprehension; they are: a lot like me,
a little like me, a little different from me, a very different from me.
Based on the result finding of this research, the coefficient
correlation obtained 0,747 with significant 0,00. It can be
concluded that based on the data analyzed that learners’
motivation influence on reading comprehension.
