The Effect of Using Illustrated Crosswords Media on the Reading Ability of Hafis Early Childhood Education Children in Pangkalan Gelebek Village

Abstract

This study aims to test whether there is an effect of using pictorial crosswords on the reading ability of hafis early childhood education children in the village of Base Gelebak. The population of this study amounted to 12 children. In this study, the samples were students aged 5-6 years at PAUD Hafis, totaling 5 children. Pre-Experimental Design method One-group pretest-posttest design research design. The data analysis technique used is the normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis testing. Based on the results of the research and data analysis, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between the crossword puzzle media on children's reading ability. This is evident from the average posttest results for children using crossword puzzles which are higher than the average pretest for children. The average value of the posttest of children who used the pictorial crossword media was 84 while the pretest value that did not use the pictorial crossword media treatment was 58. This result was strengthened by hypothesis testing using the t-test obtained tcount = 14.85 while dk = 15-1 = 14 with a significance level of 5% (a, 0,05) so that ttable = 1.7613, the conclusion is that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, meaning that there is an effect of using pictorial crossword media in reading ability of children aged 5-6 years Early Childhood Education Hafis in Pangkalan Gelebak Village
